In the light of the Fukushima accident in 2011 and the findings of the EU stress tests, both the new Basic Safety Standards Directive and the Nuclear Safety Directive have been reviewed and must be transposed into Member States’ national legislation. The implementation of these two Directives provides opportunities amongst the EU Member States to review existing procedures and improve implementation measures in the area of public information and transparency requirements in the event of an emergency.
An international workshop will be organised to present and discuss the main findings of an EC funded study on good practices in implementing the requirements on public information in the event of an emergency, under the Euratom Basic Safety Standards Directive and Nuclear Safety Directive. The study runs from June 2017 until September 2018.
The objectives of the study are:
- To assess current practices in public information in 28 Member States under the existing legal requirements;
- To identify good practices and highlight potential improvements;
- To provide recommendations to improve public information and transparency in the case of radiological emergency.
The workshop intends to validate the recommendations with the members of the advisory group of the study (Reference Group), representatives of Member States and is open to anyone interested in the topic. Regulators, implementers, NGOs, civil society, authorities and other stakeholders involved in, or concerned by public information and transparency in nuclear or radiological emergencies are expected to actively participate at the event.
Event is free of charge, however, registration is obligatory.
