Technical visits November 8th, pm:

1. Visit of MYRRHA Technology: The Liquid Bismuth Eutectic Lab @ SCK•CEN  (max. 20 persons)
Since the beginning of the MYRRHA project in 1998, SCK•CEN has launched a strong R&D support programme to address the main design challenges, in particular those related to the use of liquid Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) as reactor coolant and spallation target. In this frame SCK•CEN has constructed and commissioned various LBE test facilities such as HELIOS3 (HEavy LIquid metal Oxygen conditioning System),  MEXICO (Mass EXchange In Continuous Operation), CRAFT (Corrosion Research for Advanced fast Reactor Technologies), LIMETS (LIquid METal conditioning System), RHAPTER (Remote HAndling Proof of principle TEst Rig), COMPLOT (COMPonents LOop Testing) and E-SCAPE (European SCAle Pool Experiment), etc. These facilities are used for the qualification of the key materials and components of MYRRHA.

2. Visit of the Cyclotron Resource Center (UCL) @ Louvain-la-Neuve  (max. 20 persons)
MYRRHA consists of an Accelerator Driven System, whereby the LBE cooled sub-critical reactor is fed by a 600 MeV linear accelerator. In MYRRHA’s first of three construction phases, a 100 MeV LINAC and associated Proton Target Facility will be built. The LINAC’s early construction phase takes place at the Université Catholique de Louvain’s campus at Louvain-la-Neuve, south of Brussels, where we are testing and measuring reliability up to 5.9 MeV. You will be able to view the installation (RFq and amplifiers) and to speak to our researchers.
